What species of lizard is commonly found on palm trees in Mauritius?

The Oriental garden lizard (Calotes versicolor) is the most commonly spotted lizard on palm trees in Mauritius. Originally from Asia, it was introduced to the island and has thrived in tropical gardens and forests. Its brown, textured scales provide excellent camouflage against bark, making it nearly invisible on palm trunks.

How can this Photo be used?

This stock photo is well suited, for example, for conservation organizations, educational publications on camouflage and reptiles, and travel magazines focusing on Mauritius. With the commercial license available on Kataloop, it can also be used in advertising campaigns, apps, or books. The high resolution supports large-format printing without loss of quality.

What mood does this Photo convey?

The palm trunk dominates the frame and establishes a calm, earthy visual tone. The lizard is barely distinguishable from the bark, requiring close attention from the viewer and generating a quiet tension. The dark, blurred background reinforces the isolation of the subject and conveys a sense of undisturbed nature.

What equipment was used to capture this Photo?

The exceptionally high resolution of 5495 x 8242 pixels was captured with the Sony ILCE-1, a full-frame camera featuring a 50-megapixel sensor. The Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary lens allowed sharp documentation of the camouflaged lizard from a safe distance without disturbing it, while the focal length produces the distinctive background bokeh visible in the image.

What visual style or trend does this Photo represent?

Camouflage as a visual concept is gaining traction in nature photography as topics like biodiversity and species conservation become more socially relevant. Images depicting animal concealment and adaptation are increasingly used in campaigns addressing wildlife diversity. The vertical format also aligns directly with the requirements of modern social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest.
