Questions about the subject, usage, technology & more
Why does the Ponte 25 de Abril look so similar to the Golden Gate Bridge?
Both bridges share the same designer: the American engineering firm Steinman, Boynton, Gronquist and London. Built in 1966, the Ponte 25 de Abril uses an identical suspension design with tall red steel pylons and parallel cable arrays. The resemblance is structural, not coincidental, as the same engineering principles and aesthetic choices were applied to both iconic crossings.
How can this photo be used?
This stock photo is available for commercial licensing on Kataloop. Thanks to its resolution of over 8,500 pixels, it works well for large-format print applications such as posters or exhibition displays, as well as digital uses in travel campaigns, tourism websites, or Portugal travel guides. It also fits infrastructure or architecture communications and works as a visual element in brand content about Europe.
What mood does this photo convey?
The direct view of the setting sun behind the bridge girder creates a clear backlit situation, rendering the bridge and boats as dark silhouettes against an orange sky. The wave motion in the foreground adds dynamic energy without breaking the overall sense of calm. Associations: departure, vastness, travel, the end of a day on the water.
What equipment was used to capture this photo?
This image was captured with the Sony ILCE-1, a full-frame flagship camera with 50.1 megapixels, paired with the Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM. The ultra-wide-angle lens captures the entire bridge span along with the Tagus River waves in the foreground in a single frame. The resulting resolution of 8537 x 5691 pixels allows for large-format prints or heavy cropping without any loss of quality.
What visual style or trend does this photo represent?
Shots taken from the water that show well-known landmarks from an unusual angle align with the trend toward authentic travel photography beyond classic tourist viewpoints. At the same time, the image serves the ongoing demand for slow travel content that communicates a deliberate, unhurried experience of travel while retaining clear visual recognition of the location.
As this photo impressively shows, the Ponte 25 de Abril connects Lisbon with the municipality of Almada across the Tagus River and, at around 2.3 km, is one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe. Its red pylons and distinctive suspension cables bear a strong resemblance to the Golden Gate Bridge. At sunset especially, when the light reflects off the Tagus and sailboats glide beneath the span, the view from the water offers one of the most iconic perspectives of Lisbon's skyline.

The Portuguese capital sits on the Atlantic coast and is considered one of the oldest cities in Western Europe. Lisbon impresses with its mix of historic neighborhoods like Alfama and Belém and a vibrant contemporary creative scene. The Tagus River shapes the cityscape and invites boat trips that yield perspectives like this one. Spring and autumn are considered the best times to visit, while Pastéis de Nata and Fado remain among the city's most iconic cultural hallmarks.
